Olympic Time Trial 2012 44km

Following on from the excitement and buzz of the Olympics, why not come and see what time you can post compared to Bradley Wiggins! With our all new RacerMate One software, our high performance system now allows for multiple pacers and with improved graphics you can race anywhere in the world with no traffic lights, no traffic and no pot holes!

We are setting the challenge of completing the 44km Olympic Mens Time Trial course, in which Wiggins won gold in 50 minutes 39 seconds. 37 of the worlds best all broke 1 hour on this fairly flat course around Surrey.

Bring your own road or tri bike along to Locker 27 and we will set you up to take on the challenge. We have two CompuTrainer units, so bring a friend and two of you can compete against each other and the clock.

We will post your time on our own leader board and there will be some Gatorade goodies on offer for the winner!!

The show is attended by many Pro Athletes and many had a go at the fun on our CompuTrainers. After day 2 it was current IronMan Lanzarote Champion and World Duathlon Champion, Catriona Morrison who was in the lead, posting 6minutes 44 seconds. Even though it was just 4K on a stationary Turbo Trainer, it was a hugely competitive event and Catriona was delighted to have “chicked” a number of other Pro Athletes that day, including Jonathan Hotchkiss.

The Sunday brought the Elite to the TCR Show and it lead to a showdown at 3:30pm between 3 Pro Triathletes. Including two time Biathle and Aquathon World Champion Richard Stannard, the youngest winner of both Ironman UK and Ironman 70.3 UK Phil Graves, and Xterra Triathlete Paul Davies. With Stannard and Davies having had an earlier race, they came back for more to try and beat the Young Challenger Graves.

The target for all three was to try and beat John Storms, a local rider for Kingston Wheelers, who is their Hill Climb Champion. He set a brilliant 6:22 on the hilly 4k course earlier in the day. It was interesting to see the techniques of all the various riders. Storms went for a slower cadence (92RPM) and stayed in his saddle to produce an average Watts of 411 for the course. Stannard went for a faster cadence of 111 RPM, but could only manage 6:41 and finished 4th overall. Davies had a little extra weight than the others to carry up the hill and produced a massive 424 Watts, but finished 10 seconds behind Storms. One of the advantages of the CompuTrainer systems is the relative intensity created by accounting for the weight of the riders when ascending and descending. Making it harder for the bigger guys up the hills, yet Mountain Biker and Off-Roader Davies put in a good effort.

The day belonged to the youngest though, with Graves running away with the title. Taking 12 seconds of Storms time to win the event. The PowerBar sponsored athlete looked strong and rode away with the title. Yet the weekend was about how an indoor event on the CompuTrainers can bring all abilities together. Unlike being out on the road, where you can be separated, on the trainers you can all compete and train whilst staying alongside each other.

For us at Locker 27, we had a productive and enjoyable TCR Show. The company of commentator and coach Mark Shaw was fun and interesting. We had the chance to shared about triathlon and cycling training, whilst meeting a host of great people. Many thanks go to Evans Cycles for providing some lovely BMC bike to ride on and to PowerBar for all the prizes and goodie bags.
